Some schools i put on my college list were, USF, University of Miami, and The University of Tampa. I think these schools are a good fit for me because they are located in a state i like and they all have a great academic program. For instance USF is ranked 3rd among the top academic schools in the country.

The school that stood out to me academically was USF. This school stood out to me because it is one of Florida’s top three research universities, USF provides a dynamic and diverse learning environment that inspires innovation, creativity and collaboration. Academics are anchored by distinguished faculty and supported by cutting-edge facilities and technology.

USF serves more then 39,000 studentsand offers 228 degree programs at the undergraduate, graduate, specialist and doctoral levels, including the doctor of medicine, through its 11 colleges. USF is located in Tampa, in the Hillsborough County area. If living in state, the cost for everything to attend USF is 23,770 and out of state is 35,450. A major that was showed to me was business, arts and science. USF science majors is great with the technology USF supplies.

After watching Social Media Revolution, i saw how big social networking is becoming. Its amazing how many people are online everyday. The one fact that really caught my eye was the fact that if facebook was a country it would be the fourth largest country in the world. When you are online you cant appreciate how many people have facebook until a fact like that is brought to you. More and more people everyday are signing up for things like facebook, myspace, and twitter. Social networking is the biggest form of communication.

As we all know a huge cold front has hit many states in the U.S. But there is one state in particular that has felt the cold the worst. The frigid temperatures threatened Florida’s citrus crops. The state capital of Florida, Tallahassee had plunged to 16 degrees by 5:25 a.m.

The National Weather Service issued a hard freeze warning across the state as far as Lake Okeechobee. Normally the temperature in Miami would be in the 70’s, on Sunday it was in the 40’s.

Florida citrus is a $9.3 billion industry. The state produces three-quarters of the United States’ orange crop and 40 percent of the world’s orange juice supply.

“Sunday night will be the night to watch, because if things don’t go well, the entire economy will be affected, jobs could be lost if fruit on the ground cannot be harvested, workers will go elsewhere in the U.S., and Florida will lose,” Gunter said.

The citrus harvest is at its peak right now, she said, and workers are already grinding away seven days a week as it is. “I’m not sure we can work any faster,” Gunter said.

College’s too-fat-to-graduate rule under fire

Most college students expect to see a diploma in their hands because of their good grades in college, but that’s not the case in a Pennsylvania school. At Lincoln University physical fitness matters as well. Students at Lincoln University who have a mass index of 30 or above must take a fitness class. If you are assigned this fitness class and do not go, Then you cannot graduate. This became a huge controversy around the nation. You shouldn’t have to worry about graduating because of your weight. One student who is highly against this rule is 21 year old Tiana Lawson. “I didn’t come to Lincoln to be told that my weight is not in an acceptable range,” Lawson wrote. “I came here to get an education which, as a three-time honor student, is something I have been doing quite well, despite the fact that I have a slightly high Body Mass Index.”  I think Tiana is right. your grades are what matter not your weight. It makes no sense to decline someone the diploma because of their weight.

At first this school wasn’t even a thought in my mind until I moved and had to transfer out of my old high school. The high school in the town I moved to was not good. I started searching and my grandma knew about this school. So I decided to give it a shot and come to Saint Mary’s. So far the school year has been great.
